To help promote life jacket use, the Sea Tow Foundation already stocks more than 250 life jacket loaner stands nationwide where boaters may borrow life jackets for free for a day of safe fun on the water. Since the Foundation’s inception in 2008, more than 28,500 free life jackets have been loaned to boaters through the program.
“Life jacket loaner programs are most often used by boaters who forgot to pack their own life jackets or decided at the last minute to invite a friend to go boating and didn’t have a life jacket that would fit him or her,” said Sea Tow Foundation Executive Director Gail R. Kulp, CAE. “These new life jacket loaner stations will be open in time for the 2015 summer boating season so that more boaters around the country can have the opportunity to borrow a life jacket for a day out on the water.”
Life jacket loaner program applications are being accepted through January 31, 2015. For more information on the Sea Tow Foundation or the grant project, as well as to download a copy of the application, please visit www.boatingsafety.com.
