- Bring plenty of water and a bowl to put it in. Boaters usually remember to pack fresh water for a day of boating, but most dogs don't drink from a bottle. Bring Rover his own bowl, and don't forget to refill it frequently.
- Your dog should wear a life jacket, just like you! Many marine supply stores carry canine life vests, and you can find them online in multiple sizes as well. Best of all, unlike human PFDs, dog life jackets come with a handle that can help you haul them back aboard the boat after a swim.
- "Answering the call of nature" takes some pre-planning. If possible, make several stops ashore to let your dog "do his business," and don't forget to bring his leash. If you are going to be out on the water all day, Pee Pads or a piece of Astroturf may suffice, but be sure to train your dog to use them in advance.
