Serving one of New York’s most popular boating and fishing destination on Long Island’s South Fork, Sea Tow Montauk has an avid sportsman for its new owner.
“All I’ve ever done is hunt and fish for a living,” said Capt. John Kanavy. “I’m a professional fishing guide in Montauk, and I am a duck-hunting guide.” He added that being a fishing boat captain is “generational” in his family. “It’s what my father does and what my grandfather did.”
Capt. Kanavy lives in Montauk year-round with his wife, Jessica, and their young son, Braven. “I’m a local,” he said. “I can give my customers local fishing tips as well.”
Prior to his taking over operation of Sea Tow Montauk, which serves the waters of Montauk and Three Mile Harbor, the location was corporately owned by Sea Tow Services International, Inc. “I was referred to Sea Tow by a personal friend of [the late Sea Tow Founder] Capt. Joe,” Capt. Kanavy said. He is keeping the same team of Sea Tow Montauk Captains, who are well known in the area.
