How many people can honestly say they love going to work every morning? Captain Ryan Helmig is one as his passion for boating and helping others on the water is not thought of as a job, but an opportunity.
For Helmig, the dream of working on boats and being on the water began at age 16 when he started working for Sea Tow Pensacola. His hard work and experience on the water paid off as he earned the title of Captain in 1999. Ryan then moved to the East Coast of Florida to the Treasure Coast area where he resides today with his wife and five children.
Helmig and his family live for the water. Surfing, spear-fishing, or sailing in the open water was such a passion that spending every day helping others enjoy the freedom of boating became second nature. His interests grew for boating as he found joy in never repeating the same day twice.
“Every day brings new challenges, new adventures and you never know when you will get a call from a member in need,” Helmig explained. “I come to the job inspired by my crew, because I know they are working their hardest to help others. That’s one of the main reasons we are successful.”
Captain Helmig also remarked on what makes Sea Tow’s area of expert service so unique from other competitors. “We have the chance to go farther off shore and cover parts of the Bahamas. Sea Tow is great at staying up to date with communication, and our equipment, which is necessary in southern Florida because members expect nothing less.”
The connection of being on the water while servicing others runs deep through Captain Helmig and he has no plans of stopping anytime soon. When he is not catching some waves, or helping a Sea Tow member on the water, Captain Helmig enjoys playing soccer and also has plans to travel to New Zealand for his next adventure.
