With Memorial Day Weekend approaching quickly, the unofficial kick-off to the 2019 boating season will be here in no time. Leading up to it, we always get so busy waxing the hull, installing new electronics and organizing for the fun, that we often overlook boating safety. It’s the perfect time of year for Sea Tow members and boaters of all ages to take a little refresher in advance of a fun and safe season.
Have you heard of National Safe Boating Week? It’s a week-long campaign put on by our friends at the National Safe Boating Council to spread awareness and education of boating safety to boaters near and far. The Sea Tow Foundation is a tremendous supporter of the movement and hosts an annual, week-long celebration in honor of it.
Expect to see a variety of events all week surrounding fun and informational activities to keep safety at the forefront of the boating conversation. National Safe Boating Week annually kicks-off with “Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day,” this year on May 17th. Then, the Sea Tow Foundation will continue with conversations highlighting lifejacket safety, pledging to be a Sober Skipper, the importance of VHF radios and more.
Regardless of your experience as a boater, a little refresher never hurts. Stay tuned and follow along. The Sea Tow Foundation will be sharing National Safe Boating Week highlights across all their platforms!
Follow the Sea Tow Foundation on Facebook and Instagram and use hashtags like #vestfriends and #boatingsafety in all your boating-related posts. Help us spread the word and ensure a boating season that’s fun and safe for everyone this year!
