Shakespeare® Marine is launching its newest groundbreaking product – a multi-purpose inflatable antenna aptly named the Galaxy®-INFL8.
The INFL8 comes in a small, easy-to-stow pouch and inflates to 5 feet to offer a full 3dB antenna – making it the perfect antenna for a variety of uses.
The original idea for the INFL8 was to create an emergency antenna that fits in a small package, but the concept has evolved into so much more. It’s ideal as a backup antenna for full-size boats and its small stow-away package makes it perfect for ditch-bags, kayaks, jet skis, inflatables and other vessels of all shapes and sizes.
The INFL8’s versatility goes beyond its scope of use. The antenna can be mounted with its hook and loop straps, allowing for quick and easy installation to stanchions, outriggers or even kayak paddles. It also features grommets on the top and bottom of the antenna to make it easy to hang and secure to spreaders, masts, hard tops and other structures, even if the inflatable bladder becomes damaged.
In addition, the antenna can be connected to a fixed VHF by using its pre-soldered PL-259 connector or directly to a handheld VHF via the included SMA adaptor. The INFL8 can be inflated either by a CO2 cartridge or a manual tube.
The Shakespeare INFL8 won the prestigious DAME Design Award in the Safety category at the METS show this past November in Amsterdam. More recently, SAIL magazine awarded its 2019 Pittman Award to the INFL8 in the Cruising and Safety category. The antenna was also awarded the Innovation Award for safety products at this year’s Miami International Boat Show.
