How Does the Sea Tow Foundation Make a Difference?

Not too long ago, a 5-year-old boy drowned because he didn’t have a life jacket. He was visiting the Buffalo River National Park in Arkansas with his family. They stopped at the Visitor Center for directions and Park Ranger Terry Traywick showed the family where they could go swimming and then Terry returned to his typical duties. Later that day, Terry received a call requesting help for an unresponsive boy who had been underwater for a long period of time. Even though CPR was administered, the child sadly passed away before medical crews could arrive.

Exactly one year later, another family approached Terry asking where they could swim. This time, Terry not only showed them where to go, but also provided the family with properly fitted lifejackets from a brand-new Life Jacket Loaner Station provided by the Sea Tow Foundation to make their day on the water not only fun, but safe. Terry explained that through the loaner program, the life jackets are free of charge to borrow and that they should be returned at the end of the day so that they are available for another family to borrow the next day. Terry went back to his duties with the peace of mind that  he had provided the life jackets needed to prevent another tragedy at the park.

Because of our donors and volunteers who know the importance of life jackets and other boating safety lessons, the Sea Tow Foundation has been able to make more than 65,000 life jackets available for men, women and children to borrow free of charge throughout the United States and its territories in over 650 loaner stations.

We need your help to prevent more people from drowning. Please donate to the Sea Tow Foundation’s Annual Summer Boating Safety Appeal today so that we can continue providing boating safety materials and life jackets so that people like Terry can help prevent drowning in their local areas.

Thank you.
