Our Team

Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut is happy to have a dedicated team to assist boaters. All of our Captains are USCG licensed and standing by if you ever need expert, local knowledge of the area.

Joe McGuinness - Owner/Captain
Capt. Joe spent some time on the local waters in his youth, which developed into a desire to spend his life on the water. After high school, Joe was accepted to the Merchant Marine Academy, which he attended from 1987 thru 1991. After graduation he began his 10-year career at sea working on oil tankers and grain ships.

Capt. Joe came ashore in the year 2000, carrying with him a USCG 1600 Ton Masters License. After a brief stint as a Sea Tow® Captain in the local area, Joe bought Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut in November of 2000 and has been here ever since. There are very few times you might catch Joe not wearing a Sea Tow shirt, mainly during football season. Joe loves what he does. We should all be so lucky…

Our Boats

Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut has a dedicated team of captains, crew and support staff that are standing by, 24/7, to serve our members and other boaters. Our vessels are ready to perform all towing, ungrounding, jump starts, fuel delivery and other on-water assistance operations. Sea Tow boats can be spotted by their distinct yellow hulls.

  • Sea Tow Niantic, 26 foot 2003 Twin Vee with twin Mercury 150 hp 4-stroke outboards

This was our first catamaran in service. She is stationed in the Niantic area but can be seen anywhere Sea Tow Eastern Connecticut goes. She is extremely fuel efficient with her twin Mercury 150 hp outboard motors. She runs an average speed of about 28 to 32 knots but can “kick it up a notch” when needed!

  • Sea Tow Mystic, 26 foot 2008 Twin Vee with twin Yamaha 200 hp 2-stroke outboards

This boat is our main response boat, as she is very quick, responsive and fuel efficient; She sees about 450 response hours per year. She is positioned at the mouth of the Mystic River allowing for easy coverage from Watch Hill RI to East Lyme CT. You will notice subtle differences between our two Twin Vee catamarans including the rail height, transom design, console design, hard top vs. canvas top and more. We designed this boat from the hull up to meet our specific needs and demands!

  • Sea Tow Noank, 27 foot 2014 Ameracat with twin Evinrude 300 hp 2-stroke outboards

The newest addition to our fleet is the Ameracat, with a radically different look from the previous catamarans. With the extra length, higher bow rail, heavier construction and powerful 300 hp Evinrude G2’s, she is our fastest boat and most capable of handling heavy seas. This boat was completely built by our team, from the hull up!
