Our Team

Ethan Maass - Owner/Captain
Captain Ethan Maass has been the owner of Sea Tow South Shore since 2004, and serves as lead captain. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master's License (with assistance towing and sailing endorsements), PADI dive certification, OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification and numerous other marine-related qualifications. Prior to running Sea Tow South Shore, Capt. Ethan was in the U.S. Coast Guard, worked for the Boston Pilots and Boston -area ferry companies. He is also active nationally both within Sea Tow's various committees as well as serving on the Board of Directors of C-Port, the commercial marine assistance industry's governing organization.

Gary Myette - Captain
Captain Gary, a lifelong boater, joined Sea Tow South Shore in 2011. Having operated many different types of boats over the years, Captain Gary is highly capable at tackling the wide array of situations Sea Tow encounters in assisting boaters on the water.

Paul Carter - Captain
Capt. Paul joined Sea Tow South Shore in 2008 and operates our towboats across our entire area-of-responsibility (AOR). As a long time boater in this area, and occasional charter fishing captain. Paul knows the waters well and is available to expertly assist boaters out on the water.

Jeff Martell - Captain
Joining the Sea Tow South Shore team in 2013, Capt. Jeff brings a lifetime of boating and cruising experience from Maine to the Bahamas. As a resident of Scituate, Jeff can often be found manning our towboat in Scituate Harbor. With experience as a Navy salvage diver, home builder and a long distance cruiser Capt. Jeff brings a wealth of problem solving skill to the job and can expertly assist boaters throughout our area.

Tyler Hannigan - Captain
A career firefighter, Capt. Tyler is a Captain in the Norwell Fire Department. He can also be found all around the South Shore repairing boats and heavy equipment with his distinctive blue and white Hannigan Enterprises service truck. He's been with Sea Tow South Shore for several years now and can be seen anywhere in Cape Cod Bay assisting boaters.

Eric Morgan - Captain
When he takes a break from working full-time as a Marshfield firefighter, Capt. Eric is a rescue diver and fire department trainer. He can found anywhere in Sea Tow South Shore's area of responsibility assisting boaters.

Pete Degnan - Captain
Another Marshfield firefighter, when Capt. Pete isn't out on a Sea Tow boat he crosses the U.S. working for a animal rescue organization. 

Our Boats

Sea Tow Osprey - 26' Twin Vee

This twin outboard-powered towboat is one of Sea Tow's primary response vessels for the Cape Cod Bay area. Capable of running at 30 knots and carrying a variety of assistance and recovery equipment, this boat is a welcome sight when it arrives to help you out on the water. Equipment: towing gear, electric and gasoline powered dewatering pumps, firefighting gear, first aid, Radio direction finder (RDF) and dive equipment.

Sea Tow 5 - 24' Boston Whaler

This twin outboard-powered towboat is one of Sea Tow's response vessels for the Cape Cod Bay area. Capable of running at 30+ knots and carrying a variety of assistance and recovery equipment, this boat is a welcome sight when it arrives to help you out on the water. Equipment: towing gear, electric and gasoline-powered dewatering pumps, first aid and damage control gear.

The Missing Sailboat and Its Bold Recovery

The sun had finally peeked through the clouds after days of wind and stormy seas. A young man spotted a blue speck in the distance after searching the Atlantic for days from a sea plane. He zoomed in closer and he saw it. His home, his sailboat, the Eclipse. After three long days of searching, there she was, perfectly upright and resting in the mud a short distance from the shore.
